So, what are Parabens? Parabens are a group of chemicals used as preservatives and are found in many skincare products. They are added to kill bacteria, prevent the growth of mould and prolong the shelf-life of products. Typically, more than one Paraben is used in a product and they are often combined with other types of preservatives. Recently there has been a debate which centres around the health risks associated with using Parabens in skincare products. The issues range from Parabens allegedly being linked to causing cancer, reducing men’s sperm production, causing the skin to age when exposed to UV light as well as causing skin irritations and allergic skin reactions. The controversy concerning Parabens is likely to continue for some time and it is unlikely that opinion leaders will agree. There is a great deal of information on the subject and research companies who favour the use of Parabens argue that those manufacturers creating products using natural preservatives are merely scare-mongering to benefit their own cause. While the cosmetics industry, scientists, and regulators continue to argue their points, we at Flint Edge have decided to err on the side of caution and have avoided using Parabens wherever possible. Currently our Shave, Face, Body and Sports ranges are Paraben-free. All Flint Edge products conform to UK and EU legislation and are strictly tested for stability and safety.
None of our products or ingredients are tested on animals. Flint Edge believe that it is morally wrong to use animals for testing, the only true test for a toiletry or cosmetic is on the human body; thus any testing required is by groups of volunteers. No product has ever been tested on animals, and raw materials are sourced only from those suppliers who share the same ethical policy.
