Smelly Feet

It’s hardly surprising that we men suffer from smelly feet. Did you know that there are over 250,000 sweat glands in each foot, which produces up to half a pint (or 250 ml) of sweat every day! And that’s not even with wearing trainers. Try to imagine the state of our feet (and our trainers) by the end of a workout - and it’s only natural our feet will sweat.

Why does this happen? Here’s the science bit: Foot odour is a by-product of sweating caused by sweat glands being ‘locked‘ into our trainers or shoes. Sweat reacts with the bacteria naturally present on our skin and creates an unpleasant odour. This explains why our feet smell more in the summer or after playing sports. If you’re very sporty, you’ll know that sweaty feet can mean smelly feet…

So what’s the best way of tackling this unappealing problem? Just follow these easy steps, and you’ll have the most desirable feet around!

• It all starts with good personal hygiene - you’re not going to get very far without that
• Keep your feet clean and your toe nails trimmed
• Wash your feet daily and remember to dry well between the toes – we don’t want to add athletes foot to the problem!
• Change your socks daily and never wear the same socks twice – that means you, students!
• Try to wear socks made of natural fibres (cotton and wool are best) to ensure your feet can breathe
• Try to walk about bare foot for a while every day to give your feet some fresh air
• Don’t wear the same shoes every day and make sure you give them enough time to air properly before you wear them again
• Try not to wear shoes made of synthetic materials – leather shoes are best. Make sure your trainers are loose enough to allow air to circulate
• And most of all, remember to you use the Flint Edge Foot Refresher regularly to help keep your feet dry and cool and also help eliminate foot odour thanks to it’s naturally antibacterial ingredients

If the suggestions above don’t help or you have other related problems (such as athlete’s foot), we would recommend you consult a chiropodist or your doctor.
